Chapter
2: Believe

I
want to believe

in
God

in Justice

in Order

in
Purpose

in Meaning

I
want to believe

in Love

in
Karma

in Humanity

in Faith

But all I see is

Chaos and

Lies
and

Killing and

Disrespect and

Emptiness
and

Hate and

Ignorance and

Disunity
and

No Grand Scheme

No
Enlightening Journey and

No Happy Ending.

No memories left

No legacy to
continue

Just
embracing the Void and

the Nothingness it
represents.

The Nihilist took
his floppy disk out of the drive at the public library and filed it in
his carrying case. He zipped up his blue duffle bag and stood up, ready
to leave.

A young woman caught his eye. Not
because of her attractiveness, but because of the golden cross hanging
from her neck. He walked over to the girl and saw that she was reading
a Bible.

She looked up. She could not have been
older than 19, with red cheeks, and extremely short black hair. Her
oval glasses were new and expensive. She was wearing a purple
turtleneck, and if the Nihilist wasn’t so fixated on the cross, he
would have noticed her large breasts.

    “Hi,” she meekly said.

    “You religious?” he asked.

“Yes, I’m Catholic. What about you?” she
replied with more authority.

    “I’m a nihilist.”

    “What’s that?”

    “I believe in nothing.”

    “Oh.”

“You believe that Jesus was the Son of
God?”

“Yes, and that he died for our sins and
rose from his tomb.”

“And you believe in the Trinity?”

“Yes, the Father, the Son, and the Holy
Spirit.”

    “What’s your name, little girl?”

    “Isabella. What’s yours?”

    “Isabella, everything you know about
this reality and the multiverse we live in is a lie. Everything you
know is false.”

    “Whatever…”

“A typical response. But try and
digesting this: the god that Abraham allegedly worshipped was not the
same deity as the one Moses worshipped or the same one that Jacob
wrestled with. So, I ask you, sweet Isabella: which is the ‘Father of
Jesus’? Which one of the three major deities in the Old Testament is
it- El, El Elyon, or Yahweh? Notice I didn’t even bring up Yahweh
Elohim, the amalgamation created by later Hebrew traditions.”

“What in the world are you talking
about?” she asked as she began to gather her belongings and get up.

“No, no reason to leave. I was just
about to go,” the Nihilist said as he put his hand up to stop her. “All
I’m asking you to do is read some history books; maybe take a
first-year religion course at NYU. Just don’t accept everything at face
value, especially from the Bible or from people that have an agenda.”

    “Yeah, what’s your agenda?”

“I have no real agenda, Isabella. But if
I had to be labeled as such, I believe in opening people’s eyes- to
lift the veil of ignorance from-”

“Hey buddy, take a hike!” a
studious-looking man interrupted.

The Nihilist turned around and saw a
tall man with round glasses and a tie.

The stranger said, “I couldn’t help but
overhear your monologue. You sound like a fanatical freak.”

“I am nothing, fool,” the Nihilist
replied coldly. “I was simply-”

“Go on, get out of here. No one wants to
hear your bullshit,” the man said.

“This is a public library- I don’t have
to leave.”

    Isabella finished gathering her
belongings and walked away, towards the door.

    “Isabella!” the Nihilist shouted.

“That’s enough, madman,” the man said.
“Just cool down before I call a cop.”

“DROP DEAD!” the Nihilist shouted as he
pointed his finger in the man’s face.

By now a couple of librarians came to
the scene to end the chaos.

They led the Nihilist to the door. “Ok,
ok, I’m leaving!” he said while putting his hands up. “But I’ll be
back.”

“What a lunatic,” the man told the
librarians.

Outside, the Nihilist looked at the
traffic. The sky was dark and gloomy. The sun was setting and it was
raining most of the day, so the streets were wet and dirty. He breathed
out; white smoke came out of his mouth. He shook his head and began to
wander the streets, a little hurt that he scared Isabella away. He
realized that she bore a slight resemblance to…someone he had cared
about, who is no longer here. A wave of melancholy hit him, and it was
going to be a tough night.

Back at the library, the stranger went
into the rest room and checked to see if anyone was inside. Being
alone, he locked the door from the inside and dialed a number on his
cell phone.

    “This is Stewart Three. Positive
confirmation that Nihilist was in NYC public library at 7:00PM.
Succeeded in causing a scene with him.”

“Excellent. We’ll see how much his
fragile ego can withstand being kicked out of his local haunts. He may
think he is alone now, but he will feel true loneliness very, very
soon,” the Realtor said.

Rhee's former principal did come forward when the DC City Council was attempting to look into Rhee's bogus claims. The principal gave no numbers, but merely said that Rhee did a good job. A worshipful quote from WaPo:
“When people say, 'Do you have documentation?', I've been saying no,” [Michelle A. Rhee] said yesterday. “I think this is an important thing going forward for teachers to have documents to say, 'This is what the data look like.' My lesson is: How do we set up a system so teachers can have this kind of information on their students?”
Linda Carter, who served as principal of Harlem Park when Rhee was there, said the jump in the achievement level was “dramatic” and the scores were “pretty high.”
Deonne Medley, who was Rhee's teaching intern, recalled students' scores increasing from roughly the 15th percentile to about the 80th or 90th percentile. “I remember her looking at a lot of the indicators for this testing and using that to design some of her lessons,” said Medley, 36. “She tried to get her kids to maximize their results on the test.”

Blake, do you believe everyone of these guys have a coverup agenda in not promoting real biblical truth on the topic?

What is the false biblical lens? Seeing O.T. monotheism or the ontological exclusivity of Yahweh Elyon over all other gods?

    When did this agenda begin?

Honestly, Blake, I think this theological agenda begin with Jewish prophets in the midst of Ugaritic paganism and then continued with Jewish apostles in the midst of Greek mythology.

Am I fair on that thought?

Josh, just wondering: is the burden of proof automatically on us to prove that the souls of Christians who die are with Christ in paradise until the Resurrection? It cannot be proven; it can only be believed. You also cannot prove that it is not true.
As far as “El” is concerned: you are simply regurgitating the liberal theology of the last fifty years. The Israelites of the Old Testament called God El, Yahweh, and Elohim. It is the same God, not a man. (Although I doubt that will cause you to rethink your unexamined position.)

I think this is the main thrust of the psalm. The author inherits a text that says (twice) that God set the other gods up over the nations. He decides that he wants YHWH to be over all the nations, so he asserts that they were all negligent, leaving YHWH to condemn them and take over their stewardships. Now YHWH gets to rule the whole earth and the earlier text isn't undermined. This is another reason YHWH must be read as a subordinate of Elyon. If he is the boss the whole time the psalm makes little sense.

I read your article on Genesis 2: 4-25 and came to this:
“Did the original writer or narrator of the account really believe that it all happened just this way? We can't really tell. However it is not impossible that, as with the earlier material, someone made it up. The person would have been in contact with cultures that had various
accounts about the creation of man and woman and their relationship to the world of other creatures.”

Are you saying then that Genesis is just a story that was cobbled together from other pagan stories? That assessment agrees with atheist Huxley when he said that in the evolutionary pattern of thought there is no longer any need or room for the supernatural. He says that everything evolved including religion.

So if it is just a made up story and there is no need for God then what is the point of “However this writer/narrator wanted to remove from such accounts any indication that the creation of humanity was independent of the one and only true God – Yahweh Elohim and in any way contrary to his character and his purposes.” What does this writer of Genesis know anyway? If he can't get the facts right why should anyone take any notice of his theology?

We must meet over coffee sometime and discuss this sometime.

    Hey Bob,

Thanks for reading. First, this post was by no means “a critique.” (For what it's worth, I've since revisited the Triennial and come to believe that I misjudged Laura Stewart's three works, “Come Back Scorpio Rising” in particular.) I'm not quite sure where you get this notion that I didn't care much for “There Is No Fixing the Drift.” While I've only seen a couple of Isaac's videos/installations (I wrote positively about “Promiseland” when it was displayed at the Memorial Union), I've found her work very engaging and anything but “boring,” which is what I think you want me to have said when I called aspects of “There Is No Fixing…” slightly monotonous.

Furthermore, I don't understand your aversion to the term “assemblage,” especially considering the heterogeneous if not disparate assortment of objects that comprises “There Is No Fixing…”, but whatever. I fail to see how calling the work an assemblage diminishes what Isaac has achieved; if anything, you seem to have a latent prejudice against found objects, but that's neither here nor there.

You've mistaken a fairly harmless recommendation for the final, authoritative word. I encouraged and continue to encourage all my readers to visit the Triennial.

Those who seek to dismantle the welfare state should hasten down to the National Theatre – but Ena Lamont Stewart’s play is far more than an exercise in agit-prop You have to acknowledge National theatre boss Nicholas Hytner’s mischievous sense of timing. Just as the government walks into a storm of protest over welfare cuts, he offers us a panoramic play about the grinding poverty of the 1930s: Men Should Weep, a 1947 family drama by the long-forgotten Scottish playwright Ena Lamont Stewart. Three years ago, before the recession, it would have seemed a bizarre choice for the National; now it seems right on the money. Josie Rourke’s production has been rightly hailed by the critics not just for its raft of excellent performances, but also for its superb reconstruction of Glasgow tenement life. Action originally set in a cramped kitchen now fills the vast expanse of the Lyttelton stage – designer Bunny Christie peels off the building’s wall to reveal not just the kitchen but flats…

He explicitly says that he despises “all the pomps and works of Lucifer” and worships “God alone” in his magnum opus, Morals and Dogma. There are too many factual errors in this video for it to be taken seriously. And too much paranoia, too. Bush met with the Masons, so what? He's also met with representatives of the Church, the Italian-American League, and so on. No big deal.

    Hi again Deacon,

    Really enjoy your posts.

Look at all of the Old Testament with a slightly different attitude…it's Jewish myth. They made up their God…just like the hundreds of other civilizations around them. They were just better writers/myth makers.

Making up Gods seems to be a world-wide phenomenon common to most cultures around a certain time in their development. They all had Gods and the cultures that had the best stories or the most powerful people behind them thrived. Yahweh, one of the many Gods invented, just happen to ride a wave of beneficial circumstances.

There is no more proofs behind Yahweh, Elohim, Jehovah, or El than there is for any other made-up God, there is just more humans pushing it or him. And remember the Christians happened to have that 1000 year period called the Dark Ages, where the Catholics killed, tortured, maimed and plundered the world and threw the fear of God into everyone.

I hope your little girl gets well soon.

Interfaithism is the danger. It says no belief or faith is more right or important than any other. To those who don't believe, this may seem wise but to those who know that there is One, True God it only confirms that the time of the end is near – a time when one-world government and one-world religion will combine to oppress and rule over the world. Both the Old and New Testaments predict that there will be another attempt to destroy the nation of Israel. But this time, El `Elyon – the most high – himself will intervene and keep safe his elect – his chosen ones. And this doesn't mean that all Jews or Christians are safe – only those who are truly God's people, worshipping Him in spirit and in truth. Jews and Christians unite – we share the same God – the God of Abraham Avram (Abraham,) Yitzchak (Isaac) and Ya'akov (Jacob.) Isaiah 53. Psalm 22.
