Tony,
Actually found this list.

The list of active Hall of Famers, with
stream-of-consciousness commentaries by Tony:
Jeff Kent [He should be]
Gary Sheffield [He better be]
Mariano Rivera [No brainer.]
Derek Jeter [Not if he played in Milwaukee]
Alex Rodriguez [Yep.]
Roger Clemens [Duh]
Randy Johnson [Double duh]
Pedro Martinez [I sure hope so. Most dominant pitcher of the 90's, during
steroid era. Better than Koufax.]
Mike Piazza [Yep]
John Franco [Right after Lee Smith and Trevor Hoffman, right? HAHAHAHAHA]
Tom Glavine [HAHAHAHA. Right after Leo Mazzone gets in.]
Frank Thomas [I don't do steroids = I'll be in the Hall before Barry]
Jeff Bagwell [HAHAHAHA. The Astros Hall of Fame, right?]
Craig Biggio [He makes Bill James look bad.]
Ken Griffey [Yep.]
Ivan Rodriguez [Yep. Defense, hits, postseason hero ... he'll get
in. After Piazza, of course. HAHAHAHA.]
Francisco Rodriguez [Uh, can the guy have a career first before we put him in
the Hall?]
Albert Pujols [Read above quote. What if he gets a career-ending injury?
Does he get in on the Sandy Koufax rule? Please. Right after Don
Mattingly gets in. Let's see him play 10 years of baseball, okay?]
Todd Helton [I say yes, but the writer's will deny him for a long time because
1. he plays at Coors Field and 2. He played during the steroid era. He is
screwed, Hall of Fame-wise. Too bad. He's the best first baseman in
baseball.]
Vladimir Guerrero [Uh ... a few more years, right?]
Ichiro Suzuki [He will get in. He's popular. He's fun to
watch. He's a terrific hitter. They will combine the Japanese stats
with the MLB totals and put him in.]
Greg Maddux [Triple duh. Greatest pitcher of the 90's.]
Tim Hudson [Uh ... right. I'm sure he'll have a great career. He'll
go in with David Cone.]
John Smoltz [Uh ... I mean, I like him, you know? He's great.
Really.]
Chipper Jones [Uhhh ... the NEW Dale Murphy, right? I mean, he's great and
beloved in Atlanta....]
Andruw Jones [No.]
Scott Rolen [F*** no.]
Jim Thome [Yeah. He's likeable enough to overcome playing in the steroid
era. He'll eek out 500 homers.]
Larry Walker [No. Read Todd Helton ... and he was never the best right
fielder in baseball.]
Barry Bonds [He better get in. He's the best hitter since Ted
Williams. And he was clean in 2004, when baseball conducted testing, and
he was still dominant. In his prime, he could do it all. Arguably
the best player ever.]
Omar Vizquel [I actually heard Dave Campbell from ESPN baseball say, "If
Ozzie Smith is in, then so should he." Uh...I thought Ozzie was the
exception to the rule. Not everyone with a great glove should be in.
And if he gets in before Alan Trammell, that would be an injustice of epic
proportions.]
Jamie Moyer [Don Sutton rule? I'm sorry, but he has to get to 300
wins. IF they won't vote in Jim Bunning or Bert Blyleven, then forget
Jamie Moyer.]
Carlos Beltran [Uh ... He's not even the best centerfielder in baseball right
now. Hall of Fame? I mean, Beltran is good, don't get me wrong....]
Sammy Sosa [No question about it. Corked bats, steroids ...
whatever. He will get in eventually. He's a celebrity and
likeable. He'll get the votes.]
Miguel Tejada [Yep...assuming he keeps it up for another few years.]
Trevor Hoffman [I guess they'll play AC/DC's "Hell's Bells" when he
gives his speech at the induction ceremony. I sure hope Lee Smith will be
in the audience, waiting to give his acceptance speech.]
Billy Wagner [Uh ... he needs to be healthy? For like, a few seasons in a
row?]
Alfonso Soriano [Uh ... if he had stayed in New York, maybe. Right now,
though? Way to soon to judge. This list is getting ridiculous.]
Curt Schilling [No. He has a big mouth, and Luis Tiant isn't in, either.]
Manny Ramirez [Yep. He already has 400 home runs ... RBI machine ... no
one is accusing him of steroids ... Red Sox sympathy vote ... he's in.]
Jason Varitek [Only if Jorge Posada gets voted in. And Jason
Kendall. And Mike Lieberthal. And Paul LoDuca.]
Bernie Williams [He gets the Yankee nod, right? I mean, he was the
centerfielder on a dynasty team. Of course he's in, along with Paul
O'Neil, Tino Martinez, etc., etc.]
Johan Santana [That's a joke, right? He had one good season and has a LOT
to prove. I mean, Mark Gubicza had at least one good season, too.
And Bret Saberhagen had a few good seasons. Neither of those guys are even
sniffing the Hall of Fame, let alone getting voted in.]
***
That’s it? No more? I think some more names need to be added to this
crazy list. Here goes:
Roy Halladay [Right after Dave Stieb and Jimmy Key
get in.]
Matt Morris [Don Sutton rule]
Luis Castillo [He's better than Steve Sax.]
Juan Pierre [He really works hard.]
Jim Edmonds [Best Centerfielder in baseball since
2000. I mean, he's not really getting voted in -- I'm just adding to this
crazy list.]
Carlos Guillen [With the tutelage of Alan Trammell,
he's on his way to greatness, right?]
Andy Pettite [Just because he didn't play much in
2004 and is no longer wearing a Yankee uniform does not mean he ceased to
exist! Jeez, this guy was once the toast of New York!]
Eric Gagne [I mean, if you're going to put in
Francisco Rodriguez....]
Travis Hafner [The new Frank Thomas.]
Brad Wilkerson [HAHAAHAHAHA.]
Adam Dunn [When is this guy going to get
respect? Does he have to be traded to the Yankees to get noticed? I
mean, he has hit a ton of home runs over the past few seasons. What an
OPS!]
Dontrelle Willis [A young El Duque. Clutch.]
Brandon Webb [The new Diamondback ace.]
Jason Bay [2004 Rookie of the Year. What.]
Okay, I’m tired of this exercise.

It is possible to vote for someone that's not listed by chosing to vote for a write-in candidate. Of course, that's not quite the same. Personally, I was a little surprised by the inclusion of Alan Trammell as well. What about Willie Horton, Jack Morris, or Kirk Gibsson just to name a few? My vote is for Al Kaline simply because he was a great ball player and is so humble about his success. I think he's a good representative for the Tigers. I guess, Hank Greenburg was good but that was wayyyyyy before my time.
In 1988, Orosco was traded for Alfredo Griffin. Griffin debuted in 1976 retired in 1993, at the age of 35. Orosco is older than Alfredo Griffin.
Orosco pitcher for the Brewers from 1992 to 1994. In this years amateur draft the Brewers selected Prince Fielder, who hit 10 homers in less than 150 at bats in rookie ball after being drafted. Princes father Cecil, led the league in homeruns twice. Orosco is older than Cecil Fielder.
Orosco pitched for the 1988, Dodgers. He teammates Kirk Gibson, Steve Sax, Mike Marshell, Mike Davis, Orel Hershiser, and Fernado Valenzuala. Orosco is older than all of them.
Don Sutton pitched for the same Dodgers team, as well as with Sandy Koufax when Sutton first came up. Orosco is older now than when Sutton was then

In 1983, Orosco finished third in the Cy Young Balloting ahead of Lee Smith. Orosco is older than Lee Smith.
The same year Mike Bodicker, Ron Kittle and Julio Franco were the top 3 finishers in the AL Cy Young. Orosco is older than them.
Tom Henke is 10th on the all time saves list. Orosco is older than Tom Henke
Jesse Orosco is OLD.

Bill,
Playing for the Cubs doesn't get somebody into the Hall of Fame faster or necessarily at all. Ask Ron Santo, Lee Smith and Andre Dawson about that. Setting the other two aside for a moment, Dawson should've gone in this year alongside Jim Rice – Dawson was the NL equivalent of Rice, and was a better all-around player! (Read my argument in Dawson's favor on my blog at
Lee Smith probably will be voted in eventually. Considering that Big Lee was the all-times saves leader for many years after playing during a era when saves often involved pitching more than one inning, I hope he gets in the Hall before Trevor Hoffman does. (I believe Hoffman belongs in the Hall, but Smith deserves to get in first.)
As for Santo, the All-Star numbers he put up as a diabetic speak for themselves. But the veterans committee apparently will never elect anyone.
The great baseball manager, who skippered the Cincinnati Red and Detroit Tigers to 2,194 wins, has died. From the Wash Post obit:
Mr. Anderson could be a stern disciplinarian, particularly when he enforced Cincinnati’s austere dress code and no-facial-hair policy of the 1970s. In Detroit, he was appalled when his players went on the road wearing jeans and running shoes.
"This is Sunday," he told his players. "On Tuesday, I better see everybody in slacks, shirt and jacket."
When one player complained that he didn’t own a jacket, Mr. Anderson replied, "You do now."
Mr. Anderson said that "a good manager is never liked," but over time, fans and players came to have a deep admiration for him.
"With Sparky, it was never just about baseball," his star shortstop with the Tigers, Alan Trammell, said in 2000. "He helped make us better people, as well as players. He was another father figure."

TREVOR HOFFMAN BEST CLOSER OF ALL TIME LOOK IT UP LOLLY GAGER. Give Trevor those yANkee teams you give him 100 more saves.
Really? Baylor's defense couldn't stop A&M's offence but Griffin is a beast. He is a one man team.
With no easy Pitch F/X in sight. Phil Hughes knows he can’t live under these speed limits. He makes too many mistakes to have his fastball consistently at 89-91 mph. To match his 2010 All-Star form, Hughes needs to be at 92-94. Hughes couldn’t get there on Sunday and a problem that was whispered about in spring training came roaring along like the 4-train in Hughes’ first regular-season start of 2011. Hughes couldn’t find his velocity and Miguel Cabrera kept finding the seats. “It is a little disconcerting right now,” Hughes said after his four innings of five-run pitching in the Yankees’ first defeat of the season, a 10-7 home-run fest against the Tigers. …“I make too many mistakes over the plate to live at that,” Hughes said. “[The retired] Jamie Moyer has been doing it for years. I attack guys and I am aggressive. When my velocity is a tick down I can’t get away with as many mistakes as I normally do.” In his four innings, Hughes averaged 89.3 mph on his four-seam fastball,…

Fringe fastball or not, I think we will all be thrilled if he can have a Jamie Moyer type career. It is easy to get too trapped in the radar gun or K/9 view of pitching and discount the guys like Moyer, Silva, and the performance that Kendrick turned in last season. Plus control, which Blackley still needs to show, allowing for spotting the ball in the strike zone with changing speeds and pitch types and deception can go a long way. That said, I think a team needs 3 hard throwers in the rotation to break up the soft tossers and some hard throwing relievers to change the pace when the soft tossers start.

Wayne: Even though he failed to make it again this year, I've added the name of Larry Walker to the list of deserving candidates who were up for consideration this year. No doubt about it. Walker was great. No about it too. – A lot of great ones get passed over – and often without clear reason, – Why isn't reliever Lee Smith already in the Hall? In 18 seasons (1980-1997), Smith ran up a tab of 478 Saves and a 3.03 ERA. – What else does a closer have to do to reach the HOF?

Orin,
1) I agree that the NFL is not a good comparison, and never intended to draw one. It just made me think about baseball's expansion draft. That said, however, a blanket rule excluding players over 30 does have some relevance to baseball.
2) Looks that way.
The highlights of these expansion drafts include some surprisingly good players, like Bobby Abreu, Trevor Hoffman, and Dmitri Young.
Also — I picked the wrong Mike Bell for the Diamondbacks I think. Maybe more on this later.

I know, right? My friend and I had a whole conversation yesterday about how, if that happened, the universe would implode, so what we see as unfortunate baseball is really a delicate tightrope act with the entire universe at stake. We decided that Pudge's lack of walks was rewarded with the ability to smeg off to Colombia at will and that the Farns had to be disposed of because he refused to play his part and insisted on being good *all the time*. I should post it in my journal, it was pretty funny. Any conversation that leads to the conclusion that Dave Dombrowski is God and Alan Trammell is the Metatron is probably worth saving for posterity.
Note that I have nothing to say about today's game, other than that I am actually glad I chose to watch the Red Sox kill another kitten instead. And that when I first typed that sentence, I wrote “help another kitten.” Wow, baseball Freudian slips win.

To all that commented on this page, it would be wise to just read the facts that are every where. If you are going to the polls on Tuesday, please know what the facts are BEFORE you pull the lever and cast your vote. Know what the issues are and know where the candidates stand. Make informed choices and not emotional or party choices.
By the way, Curt Schilling has been a stand up guy no matter who he pitched for, (we also loved him in Arizona) and for all that doubt Curt Schilling's ability to write about things political, do your homework, he could have been the one who was running against Coakley. I wish he were…

I have no idea what all this fuss is about the New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera and his trademark pitch, the cutter. I mean, it’s not magic. ESPN’s Sports Science used the pitching expert, Dr. Tom House, to dissect Rivera’s pitching acumen and no mention was made of spells, incantations, and the like. All the explanations were reasonable and scientific. Mariano Rivera leads the American League in 559 career saves, just behind the National League’s Trevor Hoffman’s 601.
