No Justice for Roger
MOT NEWS
August 4, 2004- The Associated Press recently
ran an article describing future Hall of Famer Roger Clemens being ejected
from his son’s 10-and-under game. The field supervisor told the press that
Clemens also spit sunflower seeds at the umpire’s legs. He was ejected after
arguing a close call involving his son at second base.
When I first read the article, which was
printed out and handed to me by a co-worker, I thought that it was a parody. I
simply did not believe that Clemens would do something so petty and damage his
public image like that. He would know how bad the press would run with that
incident. Also, the whole spitting of seeds did not make any sense.
Then other people were telling me the story
and by then it was accepted as true. The conversations resulted in everyone
saying how much of an obnoxious and competitive person Roger is. And how he
lets the intensity get to him. Mike Piazza was mentioned twice. Everyone was
joking how much of a typical Little League dad he is. And, unfortunately,
instead of holding my ground and saying I still thought it was a parody, I
started to rip him a little bit.
Today I read a follow-up article. The whole
scenario was made up by a guy who wanted his name in the paper. Simply,
the perpetrator told Clemens he was ejected! He did not argue with anyone and
did not supernaturally spit seeds from the dugout. Witnesses support Clemens.
As he said, "There is no version" of the story, there is only the reality of
the situation.
Unfortunately, no one will remember the
follow-up story. The first story will become a Clemens joke that everyone will
remember. You would think the MEDIA would call Clemens up and get his reaction
as soon as the story broke. He signed over 200 autographs that day, was
chatting with the fans, and calmly walked away when told he was "ejected".
Heat is a great story about a 12-year-old kid who is insane at throwing a baseball. His dream is to go to the Little League World Series. Only one thing, his dad died about 6 months ago. If they find out, he and his team will get disqualified from the Little League World Series. I like this story because it is about sports and is very suspenseful.

>>> The $2,000 it will cost to light the Little League fieldDid the Council agree to pay this group's electric bill, or did they agree to give them $2,000? If they agreed to pay their electric bill, well, its gonna be more than $2,000 simply because the price of electricity is out of sight. There are other little leagues using Powder Hollow and Mark Twainball fields. Do these little leagues get financial help from Council?
Here is the thing about catcher defense. Bad defensive catchers in the minors don't become major league catchers. They becaome 1B or LF. So in the majors there isn't much difference in catching defense.
Really how many runs would Yadi save over Mike Piazza or Mickie Tettleton? I would say not as many as Omar Viz. would over Jose Offerman. That isn't to say there is no difference just not as much as many think.

Little Big League on Netflix #winning
Must have been one hell of a bj.
[...] Really, if you don’t have a child or know a child involved, why are you watching the Little League World Series? And don’t tell me because the kids play only for the love of the game, because anyone who has been around youth sports for more than two minutes knows that isn’t true. All you’re doing is encouraging more of this stuff to get on television, like MLB TV’s August foray into televising youth baseball championships. [...]
A bit about a little app we made to prevent the Highland Football league from tearing their hair out…
This was a good team, if only they had a first baseman, other then that, one of the better New York Mets teams. Certenly better then the team we have playing for us at the moment.

Class act, all the way. I actually remember going up to the new Yankee stadium last year, as an Orioles fan, and I was on the subway wearing my O's gear. A few stops as I was heading uptown, a Yankees fan gets on the train. What does he do? Does he start giving me grief for wearing O's stuff? No. He talks to me about Baseball, and great shortstops. We talked the entire ride about Jeter and Ripken. That was a great memory of that trip.
Name checked in an piece about baseball's greatest bat flip. It doesn't get much better:
For me the whole Clemens dickhead thing started with the hissy fit towards Mike Piazza. Throwing the broken bat at him angrily and then, instead of manning up and saying 'yeah i did it, i was angry', cowardly said he was simply trying to throw the bat towards the sidelines, thus immediately insulting the intelligence of anyone with a set of eyes. He must have thought it was 1932 when instant replay was some sort of science fiction.
This is so common in every sport—and I bet if you went to a spelling bee or science contest, you'd see it there, too. Though I'd like to blame it on a general decline in civility, I do remember my Little League-coach dad sternly reminding an overexcited dad (who had driven his son to tears) that Little League was about *fun.* And that was 40 years ago! (And no, my dad wasn't coaching MY team–they didn't let girls in Little League back then!).
David,
Such a jovial mood. Something's tickling your inner poet..
We're in a serious heat wave here.
San Diego (Chula Vista) won the World Series, the whole kittencaboodle, in Little League today. We beat Chinese-Taipei, one of the most storied little league countries.
It is really quite an achievement. I tried explaining it to Brandon who has absolutely no interest in sports other than soccer. He's just like some other people I know.

We can give a chance to Fonzie as a coach… No one in the majors wants him as a player… Why should we? Cause he played for us… Noooooo…. Last time he appear in the majors was in 2006… We need all the help we can get, and it won't be from fonzie… I thought he was retire…. I mean don't get me wrong I love fonzie, I also Love Mike Piazza… but there time was then, not now…. But I guess your right… It wouldn't hurt to give Fonzie a chance in spring training…..I ll be the first to wish him good luck…. Lets Go Mets 2010 and beyond………
Who needs a monster truck when you got a toyota.
@Jon
I saw somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 Mets games this year. Schneider is not going to make anyone forget Mike Piazza and Gary Carter, or even Todd Hundley.
But he had a decent year, performed better than most people expected at the time of the trade and helped them win several games with his bat.
I would argue that he is better offensively than Carlos Ruiz or Jason Varitek at this point in their careers… and he certainly had a better 2008 season than Paul LoDuca.
Sweet!!! This song kicks ass

Ballgames should be fun, not violent. I truly hope that this Roland character does get charged by the OC DA and then gets convicted. There is no excuse to throw anything with malicious intent at anyone, whether he’s Mike Piazza or John Doe. If anything, this guy deserves to be sued by Piazza. Since Piazza already has a lot of money, I hope his demand is for this Roland guy to have “LOSER” tattooed on his forehead.
